After a long break from posting I decided it was time for an update. Went to Busan this past weekend to go see No Age and get some seaside sunshine. Taeguk village was another highlight for me.
It's kind of like a Brazillian favela without all the violent crime and abject poverty. During the Korean War, Taeguk village was where a lot of the refugees and dispossessed ended up. Nowadays a lot of the houses are empty but the city council decided to spruce up the place and turn it into a tourist attraction.
Despite that I got the feeling not many people are really aware of it. It's definitely worth a look if you're in Busan and looking for an unusual hike (the streets are pretty steep, if you didn't get that from the pictures)
To get there take subway line 1 to Toseong station (토성역). Head straight out of exit 8 following the street around the corner to the right. At the bus stop just up the road in front of the Busan cancer center, take one of the minibuses to Gamcheong elementary school (감천초등학교)
